In response to the new risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, we have set out to develop a new expansive protocol that builds upon our existing health and safety measures and high standards. Some of these enhanced safety measures impact more specifically the booking phase for which we kindly require our travel partners full attention and respect.
Starting from the restart of operations in August 2020, each booking will require additional mandatory contact details to enable the cruise ticket emission. This new measure will enable MSC Cruises to reach out to the passengers directly and in a timely manner, as well as to liaise with the local health authorities, in case of emergency such as COVID-19 alerts or for important updates regarding their cruise. By doing so, we also want to strengthen our cooperation with our travel partners and relieve them with the workload implied by last-minute communications, as and when they happen.
It is important to note that passengers will be exclusively contacted for operational reasons, and thus will be in line with the GDPR privacy requirements. More specifically, the GDPR requires a high level of protection of special categories of personal data, including health data, which must be communicated only to the affected individual. These personal contact details will not be used for marketing and commercial purposes.
Each travel partner will thus be responsible for the accuracy of their client direct contact details. May a travel partner provide wrong or false passenger contact details, this would result in prejudicial consequences for the continuation of our distribution contract.
WHICH CONTACT DETAILS INFORMATION IS REQUIRED?
For any ship, any destination, and in order to issue the cruise ticket, it is now mandatory to provide the below information:
- Guest direct email and Guest mobile phone (mandatory for at least the main passenger of the booking)
- Guest address specifically his country of residence, his city, its ZIP Code and his detailed address (mandatory for all passengers of the booking)
WHY IS THIS INFORMATION NOW MANDATORY?br> - Guests’ direct email and mobile phone number are required in case of emergency such as COVID-19 alerts or for important updates regarding their cruise (Itinerary changes, port/day of embarkation changes, bad weather conditions implying cruise schedule changes, etc).
- Guests’ address is required firstly, to determine if Guests travel from any of the Schengen countries that are deemed ‘high risk’ by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), and secondly, to provide this information to the local health authorities in case of emergency.
WHEN AND WHERE TO INSERT THESE CONTACT DETAILS ON MSC BOOK?
These direct contact details will be mandatory to issue the cruise ticket. They can be filled during the initial booking process, even if not mandatory at this stage of the booking process, or when managing the booking after its confirmation.
